This is what I have so far. I would love to hear
from any relatives, especially those who can
add to this tree. Is the family truly Irish, or are they possibly
Ulster-Scots? I know that my grandfather, William James, was head of
the Winnipeg Orange Lodge. Also, does anyone have a better copy of the
family crest? This is just a rough drawing that we have that was
supposedly taken from a rubbing of a Gingles gravestone in Northern
Ireland.
Karen and I hope to travel to N. Ireland sometime in the future to see
where the family came from and perhaps meet some of the relatives.
Please email me at

if you can help.
A bit of an update...I've been in contact with some relatives who
confirm that my Gingles ancestors did indeed come to Co. Antrim from
Scotland.
They aren't sure when this happened, but some more digging should
provide answers.
The Scottish Register of Tartans even has a listing for a
Gingles
tartan.
An aunt recalls that my grandfather had a kilt and a set of bagpipes
when she visited their house as a small child in the 40's,
although she can't remember what tartan it was.

From the 1851 Antrim census I was able to determine
that the family was living in the townland of Ballyedward, Parish of
Kilwaughter, near Larne, Co. Antrim. At that time the family consisted
of the following (birth years are approximate as I don't know when in
1851 the census was taken and it just listed ages, not birthdates.):
